{"id":719,"date":"2017-05-03T09:00:59","date_gmt":"2017-05-03T13:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/designinglight.com\/?p=719"},"modified":"2017-05-01T15:16:23","modified_gmt":"2017-05-01T19:16:23","slug":"cie-adopts-tm-30-sort-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/designinglight.com\/?p=719","title":{"rendered":"CIE Adopts TM-30 (sort of)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CIE has issued a statement titled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cie.co.at\/index.php?i_ca_id=1027\">CIE 2017 Colour Fidelity Index for accurate scientific use<\/a>&#8221; in which they partially adopt the <em>R<\/em>f fidelity metric of TM-30. \u00a0Here are some of the details.<\/p>\n<p>When the IES released TM-30-15 it seemed to be a wake up call for the CIE, who have understood the inaccuracies\u00a0of CRI but haven&#8217;t been able to build the internal consensus to correct them. \u00a0Two\u00a0CIE committees soon began \u00a0work, one on the issue of fidelity and one on other perception related issues. \u00a0The committee that worked on fidelity (TC 1-90) has decided to adopt TM-30 <em>R<\/em>f with a few minor changes to the calculation. \u00a0They are calling this the CIE 2017 Color Fidelity Index, which will still be described as <em>R<\/em>f, and are asking the IES to adopt the same changes to the calculation so that both <em>R<\/em>fs are the same.<\/p>\n<p>However, at this time there is no retirement date for CRI, even though they acknowledge that <em>R<\/em>f is more accurate. \u00a0The logic is a bit twisted. \u00a0Since CRI is used for purposes other than the intended purpose, and since TM-30 doesn&#8217;t satisfy those purposes, we&#8217;re going to continue to mis-use CRI. \u00a0Meanwhile, &#8220;replacement of the CRI will be a matter of future study and discussion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll probably have more to say once I read the entire report. \u00a0If you want to read the report yourself\u00a0you can purchase\u00a0it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techstreet.com\/cie\/standards\/cie-224-2017?gateway_code=cie&amp;product_id=1950087\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The CIE has issued a statement titled &#8220;CIE 2017 Colour Fidelity Index for accurate scientific use&#8221; in which they partially adopt the Rf fidelity metric of TM-30. \u00a0Here are some of the details.
