Jason Livingston IALD, IES, LC
I am the principal of Studio T+L, LLC a lighting design and theatre consulting firm based in New York City, which I founded in 2006.
For the first two decades of my career I was a theatrical lighting designer before transitioning to architectural lighting design and theatre consulting. As an architectural lighting designer my projects have included residences, high end retail, corporate offices, restaurants, places of worship and theatres. I have been awarded the IES Illumination Award of Merit, a Lumen Award by the New York Section of the IES, and an International Illumination Design Award by the IESNA. My work has been profiled in Lighting Design + Application, Lighting & Sound America, Architectural SSL, and Design Bureau magazines.
I have taught theatrical and architectural lighting design in New York City since 1993. I currently teach architectural lighting design at New York School of Interior Design and Parsons The New School For Design. In the classroom my emphasis is on light as a design medium that supports the architectural and interior designs, creates an appropriate environment, and affects users’ perception of a space. I have also taught theatre lighting design at New York University and architectural lighting design at Pratt Institute and Fashion Institute of Technology.
I am the co-chair of the IES Color Committee, and am co-author of their Lighting Science-5 Color (IES 2020) and Design Guide 1 – Color and Illumination (IES, 2016). I hold a BFA in Theatre Arts from University of Miami and an MFA in Theatre Lighting Design from New York University. I am a member of Illuminating Engineering Society, International Association of Lighting Designers, and United Scenic Artists Local 829.
